OVERVIEW
Ninja's world is a very interesting theme in some stories, and it belongs to one of the most popular theme in manga stories. One of them is a Japanese manga series that I want to describe here, Nabari no Ou written and illustrated by Yuhki Kamatani which is using ninja's world in this modern era as its background setting place. Word "nabari" itself means "ninja's world".This manga was published by Square Enix in 2004. Its anime series were also released in 2008 by J.C. Staff about 26 episodes. In Indonesia, this manga was published by Elex Media Komputindo, and its title had changed to The Ruler of Nabari.
Besides, this manga also adopted a very touching friendship theme. The unique part of this manga is a politic struggle for the dominion of ninja's world. However, don't ever think that it will be boring because the writer has added some comedy in it.
PLOT
Miharu Rokujo is a 8th grade student from Banten village who apathetic to the world around him. Miharu trapped in a struggle for the dominion of the Nabari world because he has the most powerful hijutsu (secret art), Shinra Banshou inside his body. Whoever has that hijutsu will be the ruler of the Nabari world, so there are many clans struggle for it with kill the owner of this hijutsu. Miharu is protected from bad ninjas by Aizawa Kouchi with ask him for join into the nindo club in their school under Tobari Kumohira. Although Miharu wants nothing to do with ninja, Tobari vowed that he will protect Miharu until he becomes the ruler of Nabari.
With the suggestion of a samurai girl who affilated with Fuuma village, Shimizu Raimei, they ask Fuuma village to help them to get the information and look for the way to seal Shinra Banshou. Unfortunately, when they arrived in Fuuma village, they were attacked by Kairoushuu clan that want to steal Tenpenka kinjutsu (forbidden art). They have known that Miharu is the one who possesses the Shinra Banshou, because of that one of Kairoshuu clan, Yoite attack him using kinjutsu which belongs to Kairoshuu that called with Kira. After that incident, Fuuma and Banten considered that Kairoshuu wants to collect kinjutsu in order to find out how to take Shinra Banshou away from Miharu.
When Aizawa and Shimizu visit Miharu's house, they were attacked by Yoite and kidnap Miharu. The reason is Yoite wants Miharu to change the past, so that Yoite were never existed in this world, but Miharu doesn't fulfil it straight away because he isn't enough to control the power hijutsu Shinra Banshou yet. Finally, Yoite promised to help Miharu until he can control the Shinra Banshou. Then Miharu feels sympathy with Yoite because whenever he uses kinijutsu Kira, it will force him to loss his life gradually. Later they are getting closer each other, even though many people aroun them don't like it.
CHARACTERS
Rokujou Miharu: 14 years old boy who still in the primary high school. He is the owner of hijutsu Shinra Banhsou, which is many clans aimed at. To protect people around him, he tries to behave like a normal guy. His innocent face is often used to seduce and get what he wants. His goal is inherit his family's okonomiyaki store.
Shinra Banshou: the most powerful hijutsu who personified as enigmatic girl with white hair, long nails, and live inside of Miharu's body. She acts like Miharu's protector when he was attacked by enemies, but she keeps trying to perusade Miharu to destroy the world.
Aizawa Kouchi: Miharu's classmate who learns nindo. He often looks energic with the other people, but he can be very serious and relentless when it comes to ninja duties. He is a skilful ninjutsu user, starts from physic until illusion ninjutsu. His over mature behavior makes him more mysterious about his personality.
Shimizu Raimei: a samurai girl who is still 14 years old and the leader of Fuuma village. She has a sword named Kurogamon that is always brought everywhere she goes. Her sword skill is undoubted anymore. She very hates her brother that considered as the killer of their family.
Kumohira Thobari Durandal: a Banten village ninja, 25 years old , and disguised himself as an English teacher in Miharu's school. He was born in Irlandia, and then he was fostered by his grandfather to be a Banten's ninja. Kumohira is a person who keeps secrets of the world of Nabari.
Yoite: 16 years old boy who has kinjutsu from Kairoushuu clan that called with Kira. Yoite was born as a hermaphrodite and named Sora, Yoite doesn't consider it as his name though. He asks for Miharu's help to erase his existence because the effect of using his kinjutsu will be loosing his life. Later he make up his mind to still alive after he knows Miharu closer.
Shimizu Raikou: Raimei's brother, 20 years old, and also a samurai. After he left his family, he becomes a wakachi (someone who gives a punishment to Kairoushuu's ninja that disobey the ninja's law) for Kairoushuu's clan. He is the only one who knows the secret of Shimizu family that makes him betrayed his family. That is why his sister hates him so bad.
